Lesson One:
The Business Case for Writing Your Transformational Nonfiction Book
Obstacle: “I’m not sure how writing a book will help my business to grow.”
In this lesson, you’ll discover the business case for writing a book and how becoming a published author can skyrocket your success!
Lesson One:
Becoming a published author is not your final destination as an entrepreneur; it is a part of a larger journey that can unfold in unforeseen and powerful ways. Your book is the perfect calling card to lend credibility to your expertise and can be a powerful tool for you to market your services to potential clients and inspire them to seek further support from you.
The clout of being a published author also enables you, as a known authority in your field, to price your offerings at premium fees that will not only help you to thrive in your business but will provide more opportunities for you to grow your platform and expand your reach.
Know Your Goals
Many entrepreneurs start writing their transformational book and end up getting stuck because they don’t know the goals they have for their business and how their book can help them achieve those goals.
When you have clarity about the vision you have for the future of your business, you are much more likely to write a book that will expand your impact and grow the success of your business.
Writing the right book will convert your readers into loyal fans (and clients if that’s a goal) who will help to skyrocket your business success. The right book will also open doors for you to book paid speaking gigs on your subject matter and build a growing platform that will expand the reach of your message so that you’re able to transform more lives.
Create New Offerings
No matter how deeply you know your subject matter, the process of structuring your content and showcasing your expertise in a way that will deeply engage your reader will often spark new creative ways to adapt your offerings to better serve your business goals.
You may come up with brand new client offerings through the creative process of writing your book or be able to refine and strengthen your existing offerings. Published authors are often able to double or triple their rates of service and sell out their programs and courses because they have clout as known experts in their fields. And the more you and your business thrive, the easier it is to keep expanding and growing your platform to serve.
Our client, Amy, is a health coach who had an existing online course that had always done well. She had wanted to update it but was not sure how to approach it or what to include. Through the process of writing the first draft of her book manuscript and getting feedback from her developmental editor, she had an epiphany about how to revamp her existing online program with the creative energy that was unleashed in her book’s revision.
Importantly, she had a successful simultaneous launch of both her book and her new online program. She created the return on her investment in her book in real-time as the book came out, while also strengthening her client offerings to reach a new, broader clientele base.
Exercise:
Take a moment to contemplate the answers to these three key questions before you begin to write your transformational book. Writing these answers down can help to clarify your vision for your business and what content is the most important to include in your book.
1. What kind of impact do I want my book to make in my business? (For example, do you want more clients? Do you want to be paid to speak at events about the topic in your book?)
2. What is the vision I have for myself and my business after my book is published?
3. How do I want my readers to be different after reading my book? How do I want them to feel?
Knowing these answers can be a great jumping off point for seeing how to write the right first book that will help to build your business and transform your readers lives. Having this clarity before you write will help to shape the direction you want your book to take to meet the goals you have for yourself and for your business.
